Stephanie is interested in how fast she can walk. She found out that she can walk 30 metres in 20 seconds. If she continues to walk at the same speed, how far would she have walked in: a) 3 minutes? b) 15 minutes? c) 20 minutes?
Strategie
60 + 60 + 60= 180
180 divided by 20 = 9
9 x 30= 270 metres
B) 60 x 15=900 seconds
900 divided by 20= 45
45 x 30= 1350 metres
C) 60 x 20= 1200 divided by 20= 60
60 x 30=1800 metres
Question 2
Amber’s grandmother is cooking a roast for their Sunday dinner. It weighs 4 kilograms and needs to be cooked 40 minutes for every kilogram of weight. She puts it in the oven at 9.50 am.
a) How long will the roast take to cook? Give your answer in hours and minutes.
b) If her family is due to arrive for lunch at 12.30 will the roast be ready in time? What time will it be ready?
Strategie
40 x 4=160 minutes = 2 hrs 40mins
40 + 40 = 80 - 20 =60 mins = 1 hr
40 + 40 = 80 - 20 = 60 mins = 1 hr
20 + 20= 40 mins. 1 hr + 1 hr + 40 mins
= 2 hrs 40mins
B) Yes because 9.50 + 2hrs = 11.50 + 40 mins= 12.30,
so it will be perfectly cooked for anyone who wants to eat it
Hope you learnt something from my version of maths :)
